We’ve just finished our last training session with Libby from ADT, and we honestly couldn’t recommend her enough!

Our journey with Shiloh’s reactivity has been challenging, and after going through different trainers, Libby has truly changed both Shiloh’s life and ours for the better. Before, we dreaded taking him on walks because he would react to dogs, people, and cars. We would constantly look for empty parks and avoid busy areas because of how anxious and embarrassed we felt. He also had no recall and would constantly run off (he even ran away for FOUR DAYS once!). Now, Shiloh can loose leash walk, has amazing recall, can enjoy off leash freedom, and is no longer reactive towards dogs, people, or cars! We’ve learned so much about understanding his body language, communicating with him, and building a stronger relationship. We finally feel confident and actually enjoy our walks together!

ADT and Libby have absolutely changed our life with our dog! The confidence and understanding that both us as owners and our dog now have are awesome. The skills and real life experience that Libby brought to our training was so easy to understand. Bringing it all back to basics and her great analogies have really stuck. We can now confidently take our dog for walks off lead knowing she will come back when recalled. Our Lucky Boy is 5 years old✨ after everything he had experienced over the years, we honestly never thought we would see the progress we have today.

A heartfelt thank you to Fred from Auckland Dog Trainer for everything he has done for our Lucky Boy🤎

Lucky came into our family with a difficult past, and over the years he became very reactive around other dogs and people, especially when he was with us. We were extremely cautious about taking him out, and my mum especially. She was always worried that something could happen to Lucky or that he could potentially hurt someone/a doggie.

Lucky had experienced a few difficult and frightening encounters with other dogs over the years, which unfortunately contributed to him becoming increasingly reactive. We became very very cautious about taking him out. We worried about Lucky and just wanted to feel confident and safe taking him out again. This was a big reason we decided to seek professional help.

That’s when we found Fred and the Reactivity Rewired Programme🌟

Prior to our first session, Fred gave us so much reassurance. Seeing the progress of his previous clients gave us hope and helped us understand what we could expect from the programme. It showed us that there was hope for Lucky too, and that his life could genuinely change for the better.

Our first session was challenging and emotional, with Lucky reacting strongly towards Fred multiple times. But Fred never gave up on Lucky. He remained patient and consistent throughout, believing in Lucky and continuing to give him the time, guidance and training Lucky deserved.

Over the 6-week programme, we watched Lucky change in ways we honestly never thought we would see. He became more confident and comfortable around other people and dogs, improved his loose-leash walking and recall, and learned how to respond to us in situations that previously would have been extremely difficult.

What made the biggest difference for us was that Fred didn’t just train Lucky - he taught us how to communicate with him, understand him and handle situations more confidently.

Seeing Lucky graduate after everything he has been through was such an emotional and proud moment for our family. We know Lucky will always be our Lucky boy, but now he has the skills and confidence to enjoy more walks, adventures and experiences with us.

Fred, thank you so much for your patience, knowledge, guidance and believing in our boy. We are so grateful we trusted you with Lucky’s journey. We genuinely could not have gotten to this point without you.

We can’t recommend Fred and his team at Auckland Dog Trainers highly enough! Fred was absolutely fantastic to work with from start to finish. He has such an incredible understanding of dogs and was able to quickly understand both of our dachshunds and what they needed.

The results have been amazing. Our dogs went from having very little recall to having excellent recall, even with other dogs and plenty of distractions around. We’re now so much more confident taking them out, and particularly with our more reactive dog, we feel reassured that he will stay with us on walks rather than reacting to what’s around him.

The training has genuinely been life-changing for us and has given us so much more confidence and enjoyment when out with our dogs.

Fred was a game changer for our GSP puppy Rollie.

Before we started with Fred, Rollie was pulling on the lead constantly, had zero recall (she ran off at the park more than once), chased birds, and was fixated on kids, jumping on them even when they were in prams.

We did the 6 week course with Fred and the difference is night and day. Rollie now comes everywhere with us: cafes, off lead at the park, even the pub. She has solid recall, no longer jumps on kids, and we regularly get compliments on how well behaved she is.

We finished Fred's 6-week programme with Billy and honestly can't recommend it highly enough. He was an absolute pleasure to work with from the very first session, genuinely warm, easy to talk to, and never once made us feel silly for the things we were getting wrong. What really set him apart was how he explained the reasoning behind everything we were doing. It was never just "do this" he'd break down why Billy was reacting the way he was, what he was communicating, and how our own behaviour was feeding into it. That understanding has stuck with us far more than any single command.

Billy went from pulling us down the street and switching off the second another dog appeared, to actually walking calmly beside us and coming back when we call him. The biggest win isn't even the obedience, it's how much closer we feel to him now. We finally understand what he needs and how to give it to him, which means he gets so much more freedom than he used to. Where to Start! We came to Fred with Kora (our   4 year old pitbull/amstaff x) who was very fearful and reactive with 95% of other dogs she has only ever had one dog she has been able to make friends with even though we have tried multiple times to socialise her with many dogs whilst being under control but had no success at all, UNTIL we met Fred. I had been following ADT on instagram for almost a year watching Fred work with other dogs with reactivity and the transformation i seen in these short videos was amazing, it was almost like magic. I was very cautious with who I wanted to help us with Kora as she is very sensitive and had read things about other trainers out there who were very undertrained and trainers who were doing more harm then good, which from watching Fred I knew that this would not be the case. I filled out a form in hopes that Fred would be able to help us with Kora, to which he got back to me very quickly via a phone call which he was very passionate and knowledgeable from the get go. I Live in Morrinsville which is about 1 hour and 30 minutes from where Fred does his training in Auckland, which some would say that is too far but I would be willing to travel from much further for the help that Fred provides. From the first week to the last Fred was an absolute professional in everything he does, his LOVE and knowledge for dogs is amazing and truely made me feel comfortable and safe letting him work with our Kora. Communication and Clarity around the training was so easy to understand and made the whole process so enjoyable for both me and my partner and of course Kora! After the first week of training we already had a completely different Kora we were more in tune with eachother and she actually wanted to listen to me out in public! As of Yesterday we finished our Reactivity Rewired Programme with Fred and we the Same loving Kora, But a Kora who can now tolerate and socialise with other dogs, can walk off lead in public spaces and come back to me on recall EVERYTIME in public which before the training was something we had never been able to achieve and thought would be impossible. This Programme has given a once fearful and reactive dog the confidence and freedom that every dog should be able to experience! I cannot talk more highly of Fred he is a true professional and great human both in and outside of his craft. My message to anyone reading this with a similar situation to this. Life changing experience!! Before ADT we had a reactive dog that limited what we could do, and when we could go out. Seeing other dogs out in public was incredibly stressful for both us and the dog. We got to the point where we never let Xena off lead and only walked her in secluded areas, if we came across another dog we would turn and go the other way or find something to hide behind.
Since doing the reactivity rewired program with Fred, we have gained so much freedom. We learnt techniques that allowed us to move Xena from a reactive dog to an off leash dog at a dog park!! We didn’t think this was even possible for us!
We have gained a new life with much less stress and so much more freedom.
We cannot wait to get to the park now.

Fred’s dog training program was amazing. Totally changed our dog (Draco) . Before this we had problems with recall and reactivity towards other dogs. Fred helped us so much. Even took our GST in while I was hospitalised which was such a relief. His homework is an easy step by step program added with his constant support and hands on approach. Fred at Auckland Dog Trainer is fantastic. The progress we saw in our dog from week 2 was amazing and we are super impressed with what we achieved in the 6 weeks.

Yes you need to put some effort in but Fred explains what he needs from you so well, not just the what but the why, framing up your actions and words in the way your dog perceives them.  The team are available via WhatsApp too, which means you can get feedback and advice outside of the dedicated lesson times.

You’re not alone. Most reactive dogs are not “bad dogs”.
They are confused, overstimulated, or frustrated — and when they don’t understand what to do, they explode.

The good news is that reactivity is highly trainable when the communication between dog and handler becomes clear.

Fred’s Story

I learnt this the hard way when I became a pack walker 5 years ago. Responsible for up to 13 dogs at a time they sniffed out my inexperience and gave me a hard time. I got bitten, I got bowled over, my dogs ran away from me, there were dog fights, my pack got out of control when seeing other dogs. It was a stressful nightmare!

In particular I dreaded my Thursday because I had the worst pack. They were all big, powerful, high drive dogs. Teaming with reactivity, they ran away, didn’t listen, didn’t sit, got into fights, ran after other packs. The dogs would lead the walk instead of me. I felt embarrassed, got told off by other pack walkers and came home stressed and Exhausted.

I realised what I thought was right worked well for some dogs – the gentle, already obedient kind. But I had packs of rough dogs, big dogs, reactive dogs and they needed a different approach. In despair I realised that it was on me to do something about it. So I started an intensive education in dog training. I spent hours picking up and dropping off the dogs every day listening to the best dog trainers in the world. I devoured every resource I could find—dog training YouTubers, socialization strategies, positive reinforcement techniques, you name it.

And out on our pack walks I put it into practice – these walks became my trials, testing out what worked and what didn’t. I learnt hard and fast to “learn to talk dog” in the process. I learnt that “positive only” training is a lovely idea but doesn’t actually work for all types of dogs. It’s like parenting and never saying no to your child. I ditched the methods that didn’t work and came up with my own based on proven dog training concepts. I used rewards and heaps of praise but found I needed a way to let a dog clearly know what it can’t do, what’s not acceptable, and what is REALLY NOT acceptable. I learnt to communicate a “no” effectively.

Soon the Thursday pack that was the worst became the role model pack for training new staff.

I would get those 12 big dogs to wait patiently for my release at the beginning of every walk, they stopped running away from me, the dog fights disappeared. I began to feel in control, the walks became enjoyable and even felt easy! The best way to train your dog is to spend years of trial and error figuring out what works and what doesn’t.

But luckily, you don’t have to—because I’ve already done it for you.

Our journey with Shiloh’s reactivity has been challenging, and after going through different trainers, Libby has truly changed both Shiloh’s life and ours for the better. Before, we dreaded taking him on walks because he would react to dogs, people, and cars. We would constantly look for empty parks and avoid busy areas because of how anxious and embarrassed we felt. Our Lucky Boy is 5 years old✨ after everything he had experienced over the years, we honestly never thought we would see the progress we have today.

Lucky came into our family with a difficult past, and over the years he became very reactive around other dogs and people, especially when he was with us. We were extremely cautious about taking him out, and my mum especially. She was always worried that something could happen to Lucky or that he could potentially hurt someone/a doggie.

We can’t recommend Fred and his team at Auckland Dog Trainers highly enough! Fred was absolutely fantastic to work with from start to finish. He has such an incredible understanding of dogs and was able to quickly understand both of our dachshunds and what they needed.

Fred was a game changer for our GSP puppy Rollie.

Before we started with Fred, Rollie was pulling on the lead constantly, had zero recall (she ran off at the park more than once), chased birds, and was fixated on kids, jumping on them even when they were in prams.

We did the 6 week course with Fred and the difference is night and day. Rollie now comes everywhere with us: cafes, off lead at the park, even the pub. She has solid recall, no longer jumps on kids, and we regularly get compliments on how well behaved she is.

We finished Fred's 6-week programme with Billy and honestly can't recommend it highly enough. He was an absolute pleasure to work with from the very first session, genuinely warm, easy to talk to, and never once made us feel silly for the things we were getting wrong. What really set him apart was how he explained the reasoning behind everything we were doing. It was never just "do this" he'd break down why Billy was reacting the way he was, what he was communicating, and how our own behaviour was feeding into it. That understanding has stuck with us far more than any single command.

Billy went from pulling us down the street and switching off the second another dog appeared, to actually walking calmly beside us and coming back when we call him. The biggest win isn't even the obedience, it's how much closer we feel to him now. Where to Start! We came to Fred with Kora (our   4 year old pitbull/amstaff x) who was very fearful and reactive with 95% of other dogs she has only ever had one dog she has been able to make friends with even though we have tried multiple times to socialise her with many dogs whilst being under control but had no success at all, UNTIL we met Fred. I had been following ADT on instagram for almost a year watching Fred work with other dogs with reactivity and the transformation i seen in these short videos was amazing, it was almost like magic. I was very cautious with who I wanted to help us with Kora as she is very sensitive and had read things about other trainers out there who were very undertrained and trainers who were doing more harm then good, which from watching Fred I knew that this would not be the case. I filled out a form in hopes that Fred would be able to help us with Kora, to which he got back to me very quickly via a phone call which he was very passionate and knowledgeable from the get go. I Live in Morrinsville which is about 1 hour and 30 minutes from where Fred does his training in Auckland, which some would say that is too far but I would be willing to travel from much further for the help that Fred provides. From the first week to the last Fred was an absolute professional in everything he does, his LOVE and knowledge for dogs is amazing and truely made me feel comfortable and safe letting him work with our Kora. Communication and Clarity around the training was so easy to understand and made the whole process so enjoyable for both me and my partner and of course Kora! After the first week of training we already had a completely different Kora we were more in tune with eachother and she actually wanted to listen to me out in public! As of Yesterday we finished our Reactivity Rewired Programme with Fred and we the Same loving Kora, But a Kora who can now tolerate and socialise with other dogs, can walk off lead in public spaces and come back to me on recall EVERYTIME in public which before the training was something we had never been able to achieve and thought would be impossible. This Programme has given a once fearful and reactive dog the confidence and freedom that every dog should be able to experience! I cannot talk more highly of Fred he is a true professional and great human both in and outside of his craft. My message to anyone reading this with a similar situation to this. Life changing experience!! Before ADT we had a reactive dog that limited what we could do, and when we could go out. Seeing other dogs out in public was incredibly stressful for both us and the dog. We got to the point where we never let Xena off lead and only walked her in secluded areas, if we came across another dog we would turn and go the other way or find something to hide behind.
Since doing the reactivity rewired program with Fred, we have gained so much freedom. We learnt techniques that allowed us to move Xena from a reactive dog to an off leash dog at a dog park!! We didn’t think this was even possible for us!
